Hear the Thunder

Mystery
Phil Wickham

Here in the quiet speak to me now
My ears are open to
Your gentle, sweet whispering
Break down the door, come inside
Shine down Your bright light
I need a lamp for my feet, I need a lamp for my feet

I want to hear the thunder of who You are
To be captured inside the wonder of who You are
I want to live, I want to breathe
To search out Your heart and all of Your mysteries

You were the first and You’ll be the end
Time cannot hold You down
Why save a wretch like me?
No eye has seen, no ear has heard
No heart could fully know
All of Your mystery

Your glory burns in the stars
Shine down your light let it burn in my heart
Bring me to glory, bring me to You
Lord it’s Your heart that I will hold onto

I've talked to several people and a common theme seems to be a frustration with God's "aloof" behavior. Why is He so far away? Why does everyone experience His manifestations but not me? Why did God appear so tangibly in the old testament but not anymore?

I think this is a frustation we've all felt... but I don't believe it's a bad thing. I think if anything this frustration is our first step in establishing something real with God.

Let's face it: religion is boring. Who likes having a bunch of rules to follow to be considered "righteous"? Screw that. Religion is one thing and relationship with God is another.

Our inner beings long for something more. Something bigger than we can understand. We want to know that there is something outside of our control and for once it's a good thing.

There's a story in the Bible about the woman who had some crazy disease since birth. She touches Jesus' cloak and she's healed instantly. If that can happen with simple contact with His cloak, imagine what it would be like to be completely covered in His embrace.

He exists in a mystery that we were meant to find. Let's not settle for our "religion". Let's open our hearts and listen for the thunder of all He is.
